Brazil #6 Travel to Manaus

August 5

Load up the car - make it all fit again. Fortunately, Olivia remembered where we put the big suitcases the when we arrived.

Check out of the resort. The concierge said in Brazil the Amazon is known as "Green Hell," to have plenty of repellant and watch out for Brazilians. 😨

Drop the people and bags at the airport.

Return the rental car.

Check in for flight and check 4 suitcases and 3 carseats.

Go through security. Everything goes smoothly and we have a couple of hours to kill looking at shops in the tiny airport.

Fly to Brasilia.

We have a five hour layover. I wish airports would invest in a children's play area like those found in shopping malls. We pass the time with savory pastries for lunch, looking at all the stores (this airport is bigger so more stores and food options), watching movies on Olivia's iPad, and making our own entertainment.

Ironic that Brazil would be the free map of the week on Jim's Risk game.

Kids finding ways to move around.

Josiah fell asleep before boarding the last flight at 7:30 pm but it didn't last, and he was extremely rammy. Gideon did very well with Olivia to share games and movies with. He fell asleep at the end of the flight and was stubborn about waking. Audrey got some Daddy time and fell asleep as we were waiting to disembark the plane at 10:20pm. Our neighboring passengers were kind and sympathetic.

Nibbles the book monster.

Collect the baggage.

Hire two taxis for all the people and bags.

Find the AirBnB apartment we rented to stay at before and after the Amazon tour.

Sleep. Except Josiah had a terrible time going to sleep. Poor baby.

So far, Manaus is warm (even at 11 pm) and extremely humid. We have a free day tomorrow to do laundry and prepare for the Amazon tour, which begins August 7.
