Natural Wonders

February 10, 2013

The weather has been chilly and rainy for days now, keeping me inside most of the time. We have enjoyed spending our evenings playing a variety of games and watching movies together. This weekend, however we were blessed with a nice sunny day and went for a walk. We followed a pathway Jim had seen driving by and wondered where it went. Oh the beautiful places in store for us!

First a cove. We found a couple fun shells but were sad to see the amount of litter washed up by the waves. We plan to go back with a garbage bag or two to clean up a little bit.

Down a narrow path from the cove we came to this memorial. I was amazed how the tree grows into the rock of the cliff.

Beyond the memorial was a cave. It can easily be supposed this cave was used for shelter during the Battle of Okinawa.

Going through the cave

Through the cave we came out on the other side of the hill, and found this memorial site.

A twisting maze of roots and branches growing up the cliff side

We followed the main path a bit further and found this park built by nature and man, on a bluff.

Huge slide!

The waves have cut archways through the bluff.

I could have sat for hours listening to the waves, but we ventured on to see what was on top of the bluffs. We found picnic areas, and a lovely view.

I am constantly surprised by beautiful places we find just around the corner from the apartment, and am please so many natural wonders are preserved on this island.

On the walk home from the park, some fun flowers
